A Rock Star Designer is not always what you want…

Every now and then I scroll the pages of Craigslist for future opportunities… because you never know where the next great thing is going to come from. Although I will be the first one to admit, it’s really a waste of time. Most of the design job postings come from Creative Circle which is one of several temp agencies that request you to come in, spend hours jumping through hoops to prove your worth, and then proceed to NEVER GET YOU ANY WORK EVER. Temp agencies have their five design guys they give everything, and the rest of us just waste time filling in their new recruit quota. But every now and then I run across an ad that I simply cannot pass up. Especially those looking for “rock star” designers with questions for you to fill out. Like a sailor drawn to a lovely siren… I can’t help myself. I have to fill out those questions! Of course I haven’t heard back from them so I’ll just go ahead and post my answers here. I used to play these things straight but since that never seems to do anything either…

At least I’m quite busy so looking for new clients isn’t a priority… but I’ll always bring in someone new, especially if we’re a good match.

NAME OUR ART SHOW

THIS MAY WE’RE HOSTING AN ART SHOW ON RELATIONSHIPS AND LOVE, WE JUST NEED YOU TO GIVE IT A NAME

Jaime and Michael Foster will be featured in a combined Art Show at Artisans on Taylor in Port Townsend this May. We want YOU, to name this art show. The one we pick will get a painting from Michael’s Toronto Series from 2008. This show is about relationships, love, our story, and living in Port Townsend. Pull out your scribe caps and throw us some titles!

Stop Whining… Get Moving

Recently Chris Hedges posted a video and wrote book about the downfall of America. Now Chris is more than likely 100% correct. He’s a smart man and his evidence of the upcoming collapse of America is for many of us truly heartbreaking. However, I do have to reprimand Mr. Hedges because he failed to mention any detailed solutions to these massive issues America is just now beginning to come into grips with. Let’s break this down into manageable problems we can tackle. Many generations have come face-to-face with complete catastrophe, they did not back down, neither will we.

Besides, I’m tired of all of the bitching and fussing. Let’s fix stuff. We like challenges, that’s when we excel. Read more…

Major Art Show Announcement – May 2010

Looks like Jaime and I will host a joint art installation at the renowned Artists on Taylor Gallery in May. This will not only be a chance to showcase new paintings and works of art, but we plan on reinventing the entire idea of an “art show” in the process.

For starters, we’ve been asked by gallery owner to compose one if not several collaborative works, which would be the first time Jaime and I have worked together on the same pieces. As we approach the opening night, we will be posting videos and photos of our work in progress, along with thoughts about art in the 21st century, and anything that comes to mind.

This is an exciting new direction for Boojazz Studios and we will keep you posted…

Thoughts on Ghost Tweeting and Web 1.0

Ghost tweeting. Boo! Personally I’m not opposed to this, but for someone like new media guru Guy Kawasaki I think he should lose a few of his ghost Tweeters as I get at least 84 Tweets from him a day, about all things random, most of which I am not interested in. Steve Crescenzo at Crescenzo Communications is dead on when he says he’s spamming his followers.

Now spamming your clients works in some circumstances. Some people watch those god-awful infomercials and actually buy things from the television. And let’s face it, if they didn’t work… we wouldn’t have so many Home Shopping Networks would we? Some people like to be pooped on, too. There is always a market for something in this world.

Tweeting and Facebooking is a tool. It does not automatically gather clients and generate interest in your product or service. This is the Web 1.0 philosophy folly of “If You Build It They Will Come.” The toolbox doesn’t build the house, the builder does. So why is it so hard to grasp this concept in a virtual world?
